On 21 August 2024 a manuscript published in Frontiers in Pharmacology by Prof Ibrahim Benter (Final International University) and Prof Saghir Akhtar (Qatar University) showed that EGFR inhibitors such as Gefitinib, Erlinotib, Cetuximab and Panitumumab that have an acceptable safety profile and have been clinically used in cancer chemotherapy since their FDA approval in the early 2000s, might be used in the treatment of kidney diseases.
