World Tourism Day Marked at Final International University

World Tourism Day was marked by Final International University on 27th September at FIU with a press briefing. World Tourism Day has been celebrated since 1980 when it was officially instituted by the World Tourism Organization (WTO). In the briefing, the importance of the tourism sector for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was highlighted and information on tourism training programs at FIU was provided. Speaking on behalf of FIU, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nafiya Güden stressed the need for future planning of human resources and fair working conditions for the development of the tourism sector in our country. Dr Güden, who teaches Tourism and Hospitality Management at FIU further pointed out that the tourism sector required team-work from top to bottom, and that the industry is highly dependent on professionals with both international experience and academic knowledge. Dr. Güden, who is also General Secretary on Eurodip’s Board of Directors, an organization which includes many of the best tourism schools in the world, emphasised that FIU is in a strong position to contribute to the development of the sector, thanks to the backing of the DMG, Acapulco, and Akgünler companies with their extensive experience of tourism and logistics, along with the expertise of Final in the field of education. With such partnerships in the industry, FIU is thus able to offer a degree program in Tourism and Hospitality that stands out in the region for its practicality and the hands-on experience that it offers.
