Final International University to Host EURHODIP General Assembly and Gastronomy Competition

 

Final International University is to host the General Assembly of the Association of International Tourism and Hotel Schools (EURHODIP) as well as its prestigious "Gastronomy Competition". The Assembly and competition will be held between May 13th and 15th, 2018.

EURHODIP is one of the world’s premier tourism organizations with 180 members from 37 differemt countries, including some of the best known European hotels, and tourism and culinary arts schools.  At the press conference to announce details of the event, Dimag Çağıner, President of the Board of Trustees of Final International University, provided information about the expansion of the University, its quality-driven philosophy, its emphasis on student satisfaction, and the prime role of the University in preparing students for professional life. With the student population expacted to reach 1000 in the coming academic year, Mr Çağıner noted the success of the partnership between the Final Education Group and Acapulco DMG with its extensive experience in travel and tourism, in developing a new, high quality educational initiative. He also provided information about the new Girne campus, as well as the possibility of an Iskele branch of the operation. He expressed his pleasure at the fact that North Cyprus was hosting EURHODIP and able to show so many visitors the tourism potential of North Cyprus, and congratulated the competition organisers on their choice of ‘slow food’ as the theme for the gastronomy competition.

The Rector of Final International University, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak spoke meanwhile of the commitment of the University to both teaching and research, as well as the University’s adoption of the European Higher Education Area framework and guidelines for quality assurance. He also underlined FIU’s commitment to internationalization, noting that the university has students from twenty-seven countries, teaching staff from six countries, and partnership agreements with many foreign universities.

Announcing the establishment of FIU’s new gastronomy program, Dr. Öztoprak also spoke of the importance of employability in all programs and FIU’s system of job guarantees to all successful graduates of education and tourism programs.

Final International University Director of the School of Tourism and Culinary Arts, Dr. Nafiya Güden, and concurrently General Secretary of EURHODIP, provided information about the history and many achievements of the organization, which was founded in Brussels in 1988. Dr. Güden stated that the May 13-15 event would include a number of activities including the General Assembly, gastronomy competition but also seminars and excursions. Thanking all members of the organization and jury members who have contributed to the event, Dr. Güden explained that the gastronomy contest will take place in three categories: Kitchen, Service and Cocktail, and that seminars would be provided by such famous chefs as Erdem Dirbalı and Ayfer Yavi. The jury presidents for the competition will be Bellapais Gardens Otel Executive Chef Selim Yeşilpınar, Merit Crystal Cove Hotel Director of the Food and Drink Department, Haluk Erim ve Banquet Magazine Director, Salih Doğrusöz.
