Electrical and Electronic Engineering (With Thesis)

Requirements for International Students

The candidates for admission to the Master of Science Program in Electrical and Electronic Engineering must satisfy the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research of the university and the Departmental requirements. Candidates for admission to the M.S. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program should have a B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a relevant discipline.

In addition to the documents specified in the application form, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering also requires:

  • An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Reference Letter(s)
  • A copy of the Diploma of the last degree obtained,
  • Transcripts of previous degrees
  • A letter of Intention / personal statement (in which the field and reasons of the applicant's study are clearly stated.)
  • Certificate of English proficiency (IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL IBT 75, or at least 69 points in the Oxford English exam (applied at FIU or equivalent approved by the FIU) is an English language proficiency grade
  • Citizens of the Turkish Republic applying for Master's programs with a thesis requirement must possess a minimum score of 55 from ALES or an equivalent score from other exams like GMAT or GRE as specified by the Senate. ALES score is not required for admission of TC students who receive all their undergraduate education abroad.

Graduation Requirements

  • A master's program with a thesis option means that by using scientific analysis methods, a student accesses knowledge and feedback, interprets and analyses it.
  • A master's program with a thesis is based on a minimum of 21 credit hours with ten courses to be taken, including the seminar and a master's thesis to be written. The course and thesis of the seminar are non-credit courses, and the student is graded either as successful or unsuccessful. The length of a master's degree with a thesis for full-time and part-time students shall be a minimum of two and a maximum of four semesters, which may be extended up to six semesters from the beginning of the semester of the registered program.
  • Students who fail to complete the credit courses successfully and the seminar course specified on the instructional plan at the end of the four semesters or possess a CGPA of less than 3.00 at the end of the specified study period are dismissed from the Institute.
  • Following the completion of all the courses listed in the curriculum, and upon reaching a minimum CGPA of 3.00, each student’s performance is evaluated at the end of the fourth semester. On the recommendation of the thesis supervisor and the approval of the graduate study committee and department/program director, the period of studies can be extended for two more semesters for the completion of the thesis. The relevant form is filled in and the Institute Directorate is informed, accordingly. Students who become unsuccessful in thesis work or who fail to attend the thesis defense until the end of the specified period are dismissed from the Institute.

Diploma

Students graduating from the program are awarded an M.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Without Thesis)

Requirements for International Students

The candidates for admission to the Master of Science Program in Electrical and Electronic Engineering must satisfy the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research of the university and the Departmental requirements. Candidates for admission to the M.S. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program should have a B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a relevant related discipline.

Graduation Requirements

  • A master's program means that a student accesses knowledge and feedback by using scientific analysis methods, interprets and analyses it.
  • A master's program is based on a minimum of 30 credit hours with at least 11 courses to be taken, including the term project. The length of a master's degree without a thesis for full-time and part-time students shall be a minimum of two and a maximum of four semesters, which may be extended to up to six semesters from the beginning of the semester of the registered program.
  • Students who fail to successfully complete the credit courses specified on the instructional plan at the end of the four semesters or who possess a CGPA of less than 3.00 at the end of the specified study period are dismissed from the Institute.
  • The situation of a student who has successfully completed all the credit courses listed in the curriculum and the term project and who has a minimum CGPA of 3.00 is evaluated at the end of the three semesters, can graduate. The relevant form is filled in, and the Institute Directorate is informed accordingly.

Diploma

Students graduating from the program are awarded an M.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
