The Turkish Cypriot Association of Women Entrepreneurs (GİKAD) and Final International University (FIU) have launched the Green Schools Project with a vision of sustainability. The Green Schools Project aims to raise environmental awareness and promote a culture of sustainable living. Initially implemented in 25 schools, the project rapidly expanded to 70 schools. Recognizing this success, the Gaziantep Commodity Exchange decided to join the initiative with two additional schools, increasing the total number of participating schools to 72.
A protocol signed in Gaziantep between the Gaziantep Commodity Exchange (GTB), GİKAD, and FIU further strengthened the project.
Project Objectives and Scope
The Green Schools Project seeks to establish environmental clubs in pilot schools to cultivate students as environmentally conscious individuals. These clubs will educate students about environmental conservation, raise awareness about ecological issues, and encourage them to develop solutions.
The project focuses on the following key areas:
Implementation Process
As part of the Green Schools Project, environmental education programs will be organized for teachers and students in pilot schools. These programs will include both theoretical knowledge and hands-on activities.
Additionally, school-based environmental clubs will provide students with immersive experiences in nature. Through these clubs, children will participate in activities such as nature walks, tree-planting events, and ecological farming initiatives.
Schools that successfully implement sustainable practices will be awarded the Green Flag Award, a certification recognizing their commitment to environmental conservation.
Benefits of Green Schools
Green Gate Project: Green Transformation in the Business World
In addition to the Green Schools Project, the Green Gate Project aims to promote environmental transformation in the business sector. Led by GİKAD, this initiative collaborates with 50 companies to develop sustainability strategies, supporting businesses in reducing their carbon footprint and adopting eco-friendly business models.
As part of the Green Gate Project, schools and businesses are encouraged to co-develop environmental initiatives, strengthening efforts toward sustainability. These collaborations allow students to engage in real-world environmental projects, while businesses gain opportunities to implement corporate social responsibility programs aligned with ecological goals.
When viewed together, the Green Schools and Green Gate projects aim to enhance environmental awareness in both education and business, contributing to a sustainable future. By fostering environmentally conscious individuals and supporting organizations in their green transformation, these initiatives make a significant impact on environmental sustainability.
