One Tree, One Life: Hope Blossomed in Memory of 200 Women

A Meaningful Tree Planting Ceremony Held in Kyrenia for Women

On April 3, 2025, a meaningful event was held in collaboration with the Final International University Center for Family and Women’s Studies, Kyrenia Municipality, and the Turkish Cypriot Entrepreneurial Women’s Association (GIKAD). At the event titled “One Tree, One Life,” 200 trees were planted in memory of 200 women whose lives were tragically cut short.

Organized to draw attention to femicides, raise public awareness, and honor the memory of the women lost, the event featured deeply emotional moments. While the project explored ways of mourning, it also became a symbol of the defense of life.

With strong participation from Kyrenia Municipality officials, Final International University academics and students, and GIKAD representatives, each tree was planted to keep the memory of a woman alive.

The project was coordinated by consultant Şermin Kuset. The project team—Beyza Çelikpıçak, Çiçek Tanık, Azat Giray, and Çetin Altun—received high praise for organizing this commemoration ceremony that united nature and social justice.

The statement made at the end of the event highlighted this powerful message:
“A tree is not just a tree; it is resistance, a memory, a future.”

This meaningful ceremony is seen as the beginning of many future projects aimed at raising awareness about women's rights.
It was also announced that the planted trees will be regularly maintained, and the memorial area will be honored annually through remembrance events.
