Final International University is pleased to announce a special seminar to be delivered by internationally renowned researcher Prof. Dr. Saghir Akhtar at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The seminar will take place on campus and is open to healthcare professionals, academics, students, and members of the public with an interest in cutting-edge developments in diabetes research and treatment.

Prof. Dr. Saghir Akhtar will provide a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in the treatment of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T1DM and T2DM). His presentation will begin with a personal perspective on some of the most promising breakthroughs, particularly focusing on stem cell therapy as an emerging strategy to restore pancreatic beta-cell function — a potential future cure for T1DM.

The seminar will also cover the latest clinical advances in incretin hormone therapies for managing T2DM and obesity. As diabetes-related complications remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, Prof. Dr. Akhtar will share insights from his recent research into the underlying mechanisms of diabetes-induced cardiovascular complications, highlighting the potential for new therapeutic approaches.

Additionally, the presentation will explore the critical role of nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems in enhancing the effectiveness of novel antidiabetic treatments. Prof. Dr. Akhtar will emphasize the importance of understanding the genomic and biological interactions of these nanomaterials during clinical development, as they hold the key to the future success of protein-, peptide-, and stem cell-based therapies for diabetes.

Prof. Dr. Saghir Akhtar has previously held academic positions at Cardiff University, Oxford University, and the University of North Carolina, and is currently continuing his research and academic work at Qatar University.
