On June 4th, the Green Schools Award Ceremony held at Acapulco Hotel turned into a meaningful gathering celebrating environmental awareness in a festive atmosphere. 78 schools from all across Cyprus showcased the projects they carried out throughout the year for nature; thousands of students, teachers, and parents took pride in the efforts made for the environment.
Defenders of Nature Took the Stage
Throughout the event, students introduced their innovative environmental projects at stands, covering a wide range of areas from recycling to upcycling, rainwater harvesting to permaculture gardens. The unique contributions of each school to nature received great admiration from visitors. Stage performances, poetry, drama presentations, and student speeches revealed how environmental awareness is seamlessly integrated into education.
A Growing Success Story Through Institutional Collaboration
The Green Schools Project is carried out in collaboration with the Cyprus Turkish Women Entrepreneurs Association (GİKAD), Final International University, and the TRNC Ministry of National Education. This growing project enhances students’ sensitivity towards nature each year while also equipping teachers with greater expertise in environmental education.
Speaking at the ceremony, GİKAD President İçim Çağıner Kavuklu stated, “This project transforms not only our environment but also how our children perceive the future. The integration of green thinking with education is our greatest hope for a sustainable island life.”
Final International University Board of Trustees Vice President İbrahim Taşel emphasized the vision of the project by saying, “At Final International University, we prioritize an education shaped by a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature. The Green Schools Project is not merely an environmental movement, but also a culture of life.”
Final International University Environmental Research Center President Prof. Dr. Şerife Gündüz drew attention to the role of education, saying, “In a digitalizing world, rebuilding our children’s connection with nature is the most valuable legacy we can leave for the future.”
Green Transformation Is No Longer a Goal, but a Reality
The day-long event concluded with an award ceremony. Schools that contributed to environmental efforts received their awards with great applause. This meaningful day showed how environmental awareness has transformed into a collective movement on the island. With the excitement of students, the efforts of teachers, and the support of parents, the Green Schools Project has become more than an education program; it has evolved into a living model of green transformation on the island.
