The research contributed to by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Benter, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at FIU, introduces a new approach against stem cell aging

A new article has been published demonstrating that Angiotensin-(1-7), a “drug” discovered by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Benter, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Final International University—an institution that stands out for its scientific work in Northern Cyprus—has an effect that slows down the aging process of stem cells.

In this scientific study conducted by Prof. Dr. Benter and Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı, the effects of a molecule called Angiotensin II, which causes aging in human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs), were examined. The most striking finding of the study was that Angiotensin-(1-7) was able to significantly reduce this negative effect. According to the results obtained, the application of Angiotensin-(1-7) led to approximately a 1.65-fold decrease in cellular aging markers. This suggests that the molecule may possess anti-senescent (anti-aging) properties. A New Door for Stem Cell Therapies

The findings of the research are of great importance not only for basic sciences but also for clinical applications. Reducing cellular aging may contribute to the development of new treatment strategies, particularly in areas such as:

  • regenerative medicine

  • tissue engineering

  • treatment of age-related diseases

Shedding Light on Future Treatments Scientists emphasize that it is necessary to investigate whether Angiotensin-(1-7) exhibits similar protective effects not only in this model but also in different disease processes. Future studies in this direction could pave the way for groundbreaking developments, especially in the treatment of aging and chronic diseases.
